Der radikale Konstruktivismus und die Systemtheorie zeigen den Menschen als „nicht-triviale Maschine" (Foerster) und das menschliche Bewusstseinssystem als autopoietisches, operativ abgeschlossenes System (Maturana). Eine direkte Übertragung von Information zwischen Bewusstseinssystemen ist nicht möglich (Luhmann). Um dieser systemisch-konstruktivistischen Herausforderung gerecht zu werden, braucht es didaktische Modelle und konkrete Handlungsstrategien für den Unterricht. Am Beispiel der Bruchrechnung wird ein Unterricht realisiert, der auf einer systemisch-konstruktivistischen Sichtweise basiert. Die Welt der Brüche ist Gegenstand geistiger Vorstellungen und findet innerhalb des Bewusstseins des Lernenden statt. Die materielle Welt der Übersetzungen operiert auf haptischer Ebene. Die geistige als auch die materielle Konstruktion entwickeln sich gemeinsam in einer Koevolution. Entfernt man aus dieser z. B. den materiellen Anteil, so wird der Lernvorgang empfindlich gestört.
